If one member of the family suffers, the whole family suffers. We know that people learn deep and lasting lessons through the patterns of family life. The eldest child, for instance, has a much different experience than the youngest. There is a good reason why the eldest child has more photos taken of them than does the youngest in the family. This small example is given to illustrate that family dynamics can play an important role in how people relate to one another. By looking at these dynamics, trained therapists are able to martial the resources of the entire family to deal with such things as substance abuse, behavioral problems, social interaction problems and more.
